Mullet Festival

This will be the 37th annual Mullet Festival and it will be held on October 19th and 20th. The festival will include carnival rides, booths, attractions, crafts and so much more. Great music will be provided by Vince Gill, Justin Moore and Thompson Square. Tickets are available for the event and vary in price depending on how many days you attend.

The Walton County Board of County Commissioners met on September 26th to discuss the possible locations for a new sports complex in the South Walton area. One of the things they discussed as an inclusion to the plan was a skate park. The assistant manager at Central Square Records, Matt Barton, believe this is a necessary part of the plans.

Barton worked hard to get a skate park built in Albany, Georgia before he moved to the South Walton area. He's been a resident over the past four years and has attended two of the three meetings including discussions about the sports complex. He was able to give his input at the September 26th meeting.

A mainstay along Walton Country Road 30A, the Seagrove Village MarketCafe has been in the same place for more than six decades. With so many businesses coming and going, every year, it's interesting to look at one capable of standing the test of time.

In the late 1940s, the cafe opened as a convenience store to serve the Seagrove Village. After many years, it was transformed into the present-day dive restaurant loved by locals, visitors, tourists and even the occasional celebrity.

The 2013 Pirates of the High Seas Fest is just around the corner. This will be the third annual festival of this nature in Panama City Beach and will be held from October 11th to October 13th. The event will include many activities throughout the area. Residents and visitors are invited to take part in the event, which will include:

  • Contests
  • Music
  • 5k Run
  • 10K Run
  • Half-Marathon
  • Fun Run

This event will finish with the dropping of over 8,000 inflatable beach balls onto Pier Park Drive. The invasion will happen at the Aaron Bessant Park Amphitheater, the City Pier and Pier Park. All events are free and open to the public, except the 5K, 10K, Half-marathon and fun run, which all come with a price.

Seafood Festival - October 6th

The 35th Destin Seafood Festival will happen at the Destin Harbor Boardwalk from 11am to 4pm on October 6th. This event will feature plenty of fresh and local seafood, with artists, live music and so much more. Street performers will provide plenty of great entertainment, along with music from Village Brass Band with Fly, Blenders, Louis Prima Jr. and The Witnesses. There is no charge to get in, but donations will be accepted.

The 65th Destin Fishing Rodeo is set to open on October 1st with the scales ready and the leaderboard up. It will be held on the docks behind AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar with scales opening at 10am on Tuesday.

This will be the first time since 2010 that the red snapper will be eligible for the event. Due to a recent ruling form the National Marine Fisheries Services, boast can land red snapper from October 1st to the 14th in federal waters. They can land them through October 21st in state waters, out to nine miles.

More than 70 charter boats and 6p private vessels have been registers for the event and many more are expected before the start. Prizes will be awarded in many categories and they range from $200 tackle gift cards to trophies and so much
