Remember "Beach Blanket Bingo" with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello?  During the 1960's young men would flock to the Panama City Beach looking for summer employment in tourist related job. They would then go to their respective beaches to set up chairs, umbrellas, and floats to rent throughout the day. They also sold tanning accelerators, zinc oxide in a tube, and sunburn relief. They had the responsibility of cleaning up the beach, saving lives if necessary, and providing

The 30A area has earned another international accolade with it's inclusion in Huffington Post's "10 Most Relaxing Coastal Drives in the US and Canada".  Those of us that live in this area find it no surprise that 30A was included.  The problem is, however,  that now that the world knows about it, is may not stay that way.  Traffic in Destin and further west on Highway 98 is in my mind, horrendous, but pull off on 30A and drive along its two lane roads with quaint homes, restaurants, bike paths and dune lakes and your mind drifts away to time spent at the beach when your were 8 or 9 and your family spent time in a rented beach cottage with hardwood floors, a screened in sleeping porch and ham sandwhiches and watermelon.
