The Rodeo Starts on October 1st

The 65th Destin Fishing Rodeo is set to open on October 1st with the scales ready and the leaderboard up. It will be held on the docks behind AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar with scales opening at 10am on Tuesday.

This will be the first time since 2010 that the red snapper will be eligible for the event. Due to a recent ruling form the National Marine Fisheries Services, boast can land red snapper from October 1st to the 14th in federal waters. They can land them through October 21st in state waters, out to nine miles.

More than 70 charter boats and 6p private vessels have been registers for the event and many more are expected before the start. Prizes will be awarded in many categories and they range from $200 tackle gift cards to trophies and so much more. Anglers can claim their $250 with the largest shark on Shark Saturday's and they can go after the AJ Bonus Award, which is much larger.

The angler with the largest amberjack will take home $3,000 with second place getting $2,000 and thirds leaving with $1,000.

Children can become big winners, as well. Any child entering a fish will take home a free rod and reel with a certificate recording the weight and species of the fish.

Along with the event, a merchandise trailer will be found on the ground and the Rode office will be upgraded to include a big deck out back. A touch tank will be provided, as well.

The scales will be open every day from 10am to 7pm, throughout October. This event will provide all kinds of fun for those fishing and those just looking to watch some of the action happen as they enjoy the food and beverage offerings from AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar.
