Restaurant Spotlight: Goatfeathers

Goatfeathers is an excellent restaurant and seafood market located in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. You’ll find it right on 30A since 1988. Owners Eleanor and Pat Miller were inspired to name their restaurant Goatfeathers after a trip to Austria 20 years ago.

A quaint restaurant they visited there had walls covered in famous quotes from around the world and a quote about “Goatfeathers” from the 1900’s American satire author Ellis Parker Butler really caught their eye. The quote that represents this restaurant is “Goatfeathers are the distractions, sidelines and deflections that take a man’s attentions from this own business and keep him from getting ahead.” Here is a look at what you can enjoy at Goatfeathers in Florida.

Our family has eaten there many times while visiting friends who own homes in the area.  We always enjoy the opportunity to experience Goatfeathers. 

About the Name

Owners Eleanor and Pat Miller purchased the restaurant in 1988 when it was previously known as “Over the Market.” Since Eleanor grew up with a love for cooking and Pat was all about fishing, it was the perfect combination to start a restaurant together.

They renamed this shop Goatfeathers to remember their Austrian trip and the Butler quote on the wall. In fact, Butler’s son visited the restaurant once and told the owners more about his father and his books. Today, you’ll find two original works of Butler in the lobby of the restaurant.

Menu

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Start with an appetizer of coconut shrimp, homemade smoked tuna dip or oysters on the half shell. Enjoy soup and salad like Seafood Gumbo and the Teriyaki Chicken Salad with homemade salad dressing selections.

For lunch, enjoy sandwiches, 10” French Bread Po’ Boys or special lunch entrees from 11am-4pm. You’ll love the Chargrilled Chicken Pita, the Caribbean Steak Wrap, the Fried Catfish and the Fried Oysters.

For dinner, enjoy coastal seafood dinners like shrimp, oysters, red snapper and the fish of the day served with homemade hushpuppies, salad and potato or vegetable of the day. Dinner specialties include stuffed grouper, Alaskan king crab and much more.
