The park is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico on three sides and the lakes on the other side. It used to be a company resort for the Alabama textile mill employees. The buildings have been restored and the 180-acre park is used during the day for beachgoers, fishing, swimming and hiking.

Many area residents enjoy the beaches at Camp Helen because it's a quiet area with plenty of great beaches. You can fish in both freshwater and saltwater at the park, making it a unique area throughout the state. Panama City and Panama City Beach are full of great fishing spots including a number of great fishing piers. If you're moving here and you want to find the best place to fish, you need to head to one of the piers. Here are a few of the best piers in the area.

M.B. Miller County Pier

Owned and operated by the county, you can spend time fishing here day and night. Many locals love this spot and there's a bait and tackle shop near the entrance. You have to pay a daily fee to fish or just for observing and there's a three rod maximum with the standard fee. You can pay an additional fee for two more rods, if you prefer and fishing passes are also available on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis for this pier.

Pier Park

Shop with your dog at Ron Jon's Surf Show, as long as your dog is small enough to carry and enjoy the outdoor area of Pier Par, with your dog. This is a pet friendly area, but you will need to keep your dog on a leash while strolling through the area.

Frank Brown Park

Two pet friendly areas are found at Frank Brown Park including one with a playground for your dogs. Along with the doggie playground, there's 1.5 miles of trails for walking
